Arua Diocese holds diocesan celebration of Vocations Sunday.

Arua Diocese for the first time celebrated Vocations Sunday at a diocesan level. The celebration was held on 25th April 2021 at Mary Immaculate Vurra Catholic Parish under the theme: The Dream of Vocation.
Vocations Sunday is celebrated on the Fourth Sunday of Easter, also called the Good Shepherd Sunday. Since 1964, it has been celebrated as World Day of Prayer for Vocations. On this day, the Church calls upon all the Clergy, the Religious and the Laity to reflect on the meaning of God's call and to pray for vocations to the priesthood and the consecrated life, because the entire Christian community shares responsibility for fostering vocations. The day was established by Pope Paul VI who is now Saint Paul VI.

Bishop Sabino Ocan Odoki, who was the main celebrant, said the Good Shepherd's image should help us in the understanding of the relationship between us and God. The Good Shepherd protects the flock, leads them to a good pasture, provides them food and water, and therefore we are all called to be good shepherds.
The Bishop encouraged the young Christians who were the majority in the gathering to always stay close to God, to never permit themselves to accept any negativity that the world of today may present, and to always remember that God loves them despite their mistakes.
During the celebration, a total of 214 Christians, the biggest number being children received the Sacrament of Confirmation. Four couples also celebrated the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony during the same event.

Bishop Sabino congratulated the couples saying that all vocations start from the family. "When a family is set as the holy family, we get good vocations" said the Bishop.
He noted that the vocation of marriage creates an environment for all vocations to grow. He appealed to the youth to be the cornerstone of the society as Jesus is the cornerstone of Christian life.
