Speaking during the commissioning of the facility, the Local Government leaders thanked Rt.Rev Sabino Ocan Odoki, Malteser International and Partner IBS foundation for putting up this ward in their community which shall allow expectant mothers to have access to a modern Martenity ward. "This facility is by no means a small achievement because thousands of pregnant mothers across the country are unable to access well equipped health centres with enough personnel to attend to them.
The reasons are varied: Distance from health facilities, shortage of health workers, lack of required medication or equipment, among others." said the Local Councilor Five.
The Parish Priest of Otumbari Parish assured the community of the best services from “the disciplined medical team.” , “We are happy to receive the modern facility but I appeal to the district leaders and the district health department to support the Health Center with more staff and also more bedding equipments so that the Health Center can serve the population well,” he said.
Celebrating the opening of the facility, the residents said, they will no longer trek long distances to access maternal health services. Over the years, expectant mothers have had to move long distances to access better health services.
