Hunderds of Christians from Arua Diocese gathered today at Ocoko Catholic Parish to celebrate the Confirmation Ceremony of 250 young Christians. The ceremony was presided over by the Rt.Rev. Sabino Ocan Odoki, the Bishop of Arua Diocese.
The Bishop in his message shared his gratitude to the Parish Priest of Ocoko Parish, Rev. Fr. Isaac Riyo for the great achievements he has registered in the shortest time possible. He continued to thank Rev. Fr. Kasto, a newly appointed Priest at the Parish for wholesomely accepting to serve the people of God, and also the Christians of Ocoko for warmly wellcoming him to Ocoko Parish.
The Bishop reminded the Christians that the Baptism, the Eucharist, and the Sacrament of Confirmation together constitute the “Sacraments of Christian Initiation,” whose unity must be safeguarded; and it must be explained to the faithful that the reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of Baptismal Grace. For “by the Sacrament of Confirmation, the baptized are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit.
Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the Faith by word and deed.”As the book of Isaiah (61:1-3) reads,...The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me; he has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed; to bind up the broken-hearted.and so candidates must spread the word whole heartedly now that they have been anointed.
He added that Christians must strictly observe the guidelines for combating Covid-19 and not take the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) lightly. As Corona Virus kills and still exists amongst us.
He noted with concern the growing trend of people ignoring social distancing , washing hands with soap, wearing of the face masks and how people have resorted to their normal lives, as of the period before Covid-19.
He asked the congregation to take care of their health most importantly.
Rev. Fr. Kasto, challenged parents to renew their efforts of nurturing children with Christian Values and emphasized the need for educating children to secure a bright future for the Church in Uganda and beyond. Rev. Fr. Kasto observed that for the two months he has spent at Ocoko Parish, the Christians have been very active and cooparative, and wished they instilled the same spirit into their children.
