Tara Catholic Sub-Parish has been elevated to a full Parish status. The event was officiated on Sunday 12th of March 2022 by Rt. Rev. Sabino Ocan Odoki, the Bishop of Arua Diocese in a decree addressed to the Clergy, Religious and the Lay faithful of the Diocese of Arua.
“After a careful study, consultations and considerations together with the members of the Board of Consultors and in accordance with the stipulations of the 1983 Code of Canon Law (CIC, Can. 515, 516, 518 and 519), I decree that Tara Sub-Parish is now elevated to the status of a Parish and shall be called St.Andrew Apostle of the Cross Tara Catholic Parish and shall meet the needs of this portion of the People of God,...” reads the decree.
Bishop Sabino noted that the number of Christians in the Diocese of Arua is steadily growing in all the Parishes and vocations to priesthood and religious life and the number of the Catechists have continued to grow, there will be a need for creation of more parishes in the diocese.
More than 300 young Christians were confirmed and 5 couples received the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony during the event. The Bishop urged the Christians to be vigilant and to stay focused, saying that where there is good work, there is always the devil trying to sabotage.
St.Andrew Apostle of the Cross Tara Catholic Parish now has privileges among which are habitual reservation of the Blessed Sacrament, possession of a baptismal font and administration of sacraments. Zones and Chapels include: Tara Zone:St. Andrew Tara, St. Kizito Aranya St. Daniel Comboni Olua. Oliapi Zone: St. Simon Peter Oliapi, St. Ambrose Ombavu, St. Stephen Aringa. Anyivu Zone: St. Lawrence Anyivu, St. Joseph Vura. Odrua Zone:St. Philip Odrua, St. Titus Azimaku. Lebu Zone: St. Damian Lebu, St. Mark Obiyo, St. Peter Orinzi. Pajama Zone: St. Augustine Pajama, St. Charles Lwanga Ajumgmbiri, St. Paul Kumari. Dramba Zone: St. Joseph Dramba, St. Kizito Durua, St. Joseph Galaba Wanize Zone: St. Joseph Wanize, St. John Bosco Ojapi, St. Francis Kodro.
Following the decree, the Bishop directed that a Parish Council and Finance Committee be elected for the new Parish after due preparation of the Christians. He urged the chapels under the Parish to unite and work for the development of the Parish.
