To provide a platform for empowering Youth in self-development for self-actualization.
To create and promote opportunities for the Youth in West Nile Subregion for economic, moral, and spiritual nourishment.
1. Innovation
2. Professionalism
3. Inclusiveness and Teamwork
4. Partnership
5. Honesty and Intergrity.
We, the members of Greater West Nile Youth Forum assembled on 10th of May 2019 with a common goal to reach the vulnerable and under-privileged
Youth of West Nile sub-region, through skilling for development, patriotism and household income enhancement opportunities.
Recognizing the fact that as a result of colonial history, war and other natural calamities, West Nile sub-region lagged behind in terms of development
compared to the rest of the country.
Education, Health, Water, Electricity and even Roads, especially in the rural setting are still very poor and the
in-accessibility of these basic services and amenities has impacted negatively on the young people and kept them at bay and in constant poverty.
By virtue of our diversities in terms of religion, political opinion, age, ethnicity, talents and skills, we want to place all our potential energies
to pursue our dreams of establishing a robust society of prosperity, inclusiveness, and a holistic environment for development for all.
The main focus is on the Youth, most of who are looking for direction in terms of reasonable ways of life and also because youth are the country's
most valuable asset and therefore an integral component of the development process of any nation. They also provide for and safeguard the future of
the communities they originate from and the nation at large.
The organization is a furtherance of the current Youth Livelihoods Program (YLP) initiative of Government of the Republic of Uganda, which in turn
is aligned to Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 1, 8,10 and 17. Sustainable Development Goal 1; envisages a world without poverty, 2; Decent work
and economic growth, 3; Reduced inequalities and 4; partnerships for achieving the 17 SGDs. Currently, young people and youth comprise 78% of the
45.7 million people of Uganda. This segment features most among the most unemployed and contribute to the widest inequalities. In the state of the
population report 2018, 1.2 million youth, representing 19% of the entire youth population were idle.
In 2013, they were 12% and in 2015, the number rose to 14%, indicating an upward trend. Whereas Action Aid placed the unemployed youth at 62%, the
African Development Bank indicated that 83% of youth were unemployed in 2013. (S. Mbowa, 2013: Gaps in the Youth Policy). Much as the Ministry of
Gender Permanent Secretary reported a 4% employment increment this year 2019 among the youth since the inception of the YLP in 2015, this is just
an ice drop in the ocean.
