Feast of Our Lady of Victory Celebrated at Logiri Parish
Logiri Parish, 7th October 2025 - The faithful of Logiri Parish joyfully celebrated the
Feast of Our Lady of Victory, later known as Our Lady of the Rosary.
Originating in the 16th century, this feast commemorates the decisive victory of the Holy League at the Battle of
Lepanto on 7th October 1571. At that time, the Ottoman Empire was expanding across Europe, threatening Christian
nations and imposing forced conversions. Responding to Pope Pius V's call to pray the Rosary for divine intervention,
Christians witnessed a miraculous victory that halted further Ottoman expansion. In thanksgiving, the Pope instituted
the Feast of Our Lady of Victory, now celebrated as Our Lady of the Rosary.
During the Eucharistic celebration, to total of 490 young Christians received the Sacrament of Confirmation at Holy
Rosary Parish Logiri. Bishop Sabino Ocan Odoki Who was the main Celebrant in the occasion encouraged the youth to embrace their faith actively and participate in the Church's mission.
The Sacrament of Confirmation in accordance to the Vatican deepens the grace received at Baptism and strengthens the faithful with the
gifts of the Holy Spirit. Through the anointing and the laying on of hands by the bishop, the confirmed are empowered
to live as mature witnesses of Christ.
The late Pope Francis once noted that Confirmation is the beginning of active participation in the life of the Church.
"We receive the indelible seal of the Holy Spirit, emboldening us begin the work of spreading and defending the faith
as Christ's true witnesses in the world."
The Bishop further reflected on the significance of the feast, sharing the importance of prayer, dedication to the Blessed
Mother, and respect for religious freedom.
He urged parishioners to pray for deliverance from oppression and conversion of hearts through faith, emphasizing that
forceful conversion has no place in Christian teaching.
In recognition of outstanding service, the Bishop expressmed deep appreciation for catechists and apostolic movements
within the parish, including the Catholic Charismatic Renewal, the choir, the Legion of Mary, and other ministries,
describing them as "the light of Christ among the people."
Bishop encouraged the parents to guide their children in these movements to nurture their spiritual growth and
supporting their chosen vocations.
