"Bishop Sabino Ocan Odoki Calls for Unity Among Religious Denominations."
Lima Parish was filled with joy and devotion as Christians gathered for a fundraising celebration to support
the continuation of the foundation building of the new church. Presiding over the occasion, Bishop Sabino
Ocan Odoki reiterated the need for all religious denominations to work together as one people of God.
In his address, Bishop Sabino expressed heartfelt gratitude for the generosity and high giving spirit of the
faithful in his diocese of Arua. He invoked God's blessings upon them and encouraged continued unity and
commitment to the growth of the Church.
The event was graced by the presence of the Parish Priest of Lima Parish, along with Parish Priests from
Koboko and Kaya Parishes, religious priests, sisters, and brothers. The expected Guest of Honor was the
Prime Minister of Uganda, Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, present dignitaries, included Dr. Joyce Moriku Kaducu,
Minister of State for Education and Sports and Woman MP for Moyo District, along with other honorable members
of parliament, district leaders, and cultural leaders.
Bishop Sabino extended his appreciation to the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Modestor, for organizing the successful
fundraising event and for inviting him to be part of the celebration. He shared that despite his commitments
in Rwanda, where he was representing the Bishops of Uganda, he could not delegate this important occasion.
He noted that Lima Parish holds a special place in his heart, as it was the first parish he elevated when he
started his mission in the diocese. Seeing its new church take shape is, therefore, a matter of great joy and
fulfillment.
Reflecting on the legacy of the Comboni Missionaries, the Bishop acknowledged their role in fostering both
faith and integral development. He noted their contributions to education, healthcare, and social services,
which have greatly empowered communities urging the Christians that it is time they take up from where the
missionaries have left.
Bishop Sabino called for unity among all religious denominations, urging Muslims, Anglicans, Catholics, and
other faith communities to work together in activities that promote belief in one God. He emphasized that
religious harmony is key to strengthening the faith and uplifting communities.
He also shared insights from his recent participation in a study session with bishops in Kampala, where
discussions focused on the spirit of synodality and the need for the Church in Africa to embrace self-sustainability.
He noted that the day's event was a demonstration of self-reliance, encouraging Christians to take ownership
of their Church's growth.
Bishop Sabino commended Koboko Parish for being a model parish, he also addressed concerns about transparency
in handling church funds. He urged some Christians and some of the politicians to refrain from seeking personal
gains from church contributions and called for the highest level of accountability in managing the funds. He
assured the congregation that his office remains committed to financial transparency and accountability, inviting
concerned parties to seek clarity through diocesan offices rather than the using the media.
Bishop made a heartfelt appeal to the public to give generously towards the completion of the church building,
which has taken longer than expected. He urged everyone to contribute towards this sacred project so that the
house of God may stand strong and beautiful for worship.
