Sr. Agnes Laid to Rest
Faithful gathered in Moyo on 29th August 2025 to celebrate the life and faith of Sr. Agnes,
whose burial Mass was offered for the repose of her soul. The solemn liturgy was presided over
by Bishop Sabino, Bishop of Arua Diocese.
In his homily, Rt. Rev. Sabino Ocan Odoki urged mourners to "let their faith sustain their hope," recalling the 2025 Vatican Jubilee theme, "Pilgrims of Hope." He reminded the faithful that a decent burial expresses Christian belief in the resurrection and eternal life, and called on them to remain firm in faith and never lose hope.
The Bishop further encouraged Christians to express God's love in daily life through simple acts of kindness, gratitude, and compassion, cultivating hearts that recognize God's presence in everyday moments.
Sr. Agnes of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus was born on 1st January 1953 in Omel Village,
Torit Diocese, South Sudan. She was the beloved and only child of Mr. and Mrs. Oringa of the Acholi
community. She faithfully served on the General Council of her Congregation for two terms (2006-2017).
Throughout her 72 years of life, Sr. Agnes was known for her prayerfulness, humility, and her
dedication to the youth apostolate.
She co-founded the St. Teresa Youth Choir in Juba Diocese, helping with faith building through
teaching songs and guiding young people. Sr Agnes had a dream of establishing a chapel for adoration
in Juba, a mission that she now leaves in the hands of Christians to carry forward.
