The Bishop of Arua Diocese, Rt. Rev. Sabino Ocan Odoki, presided over a special Holy Mass at Arua Technical Institute, where he blessed the candidates preparing for their final examinations. The Eucharistic celebration was attended by priests, the school administration, teaching staff, support staff, students, and friends of the institution.
The occasion coincided with the Feast of St. Cecilia, the Patron Saint of Musicians, and included the blessing of students from the institution a head of their final exams.
Bishop Sabino described the morning as particularly special, noting it was his first time praying and blessing students so early in the day emphasizing that it is his duty and joy as a bishop to pray for and bless the faithful.
He thanked the principal of Arua Technical Institute for the thoughtful invitation, which allowed him to spiritually support the students as they embark on a new chapter in their lives. The bishop expressed his heartfelt connection with the students, comparing his role to that of a father who desires to remain closely connected to his children in Christ.
Bishop encouraged the candidates to remain strong and courageous, reminding them that courage is a gift of the Holy Spirit. He assured the students that their hard work had prepared them well, and there was no need to fear.
"I am here to encourage you, as any parent would for their sons and daughters. It will be my pride to hear that you have excelled. As a young priest, I found great joy in supporting students, particularly those in technical institutions. I have lived to see the fruits of that support, and I can confidently say that many of those who succeeded went through technical education," the bishop said.
He commended the students for choosing technical education, emphasizing its importance in meeting the world's practical needs. "Imagine if there were no mechanics-my car wouldn't be running by now. Even my house would be leaking!" he Said, drawing smiles from the congregation.
The bishop also expressed appreciation for the school administration, teaching staff, and students for their collective effort throughout the school term.
In his homily, Bishop Sabino drew from the day's readings from the Book of Revelation, where John was instructed to eat a scroll that was initially bitter but later became sweet. He likened this to the learning process, which may be challenging but ultimately rewarding when one is able to deliver the knowledge acquired.
Bishop also reflected on the Gospel of St. Luke, he cautioning against misusing the blessings and opportunities God provides. He reminded the congregation that Jesus cleansed the temple when it was turned into a marketplace, urging everyone to use their gifts for their intended purpose.
He extended his gratitude to the school chaplain, Fr. Thomas for his tireless service to the institution assuring the college of continued pastoral care, promising that a chaplain would always be available to guide the students spiritually.
