Launch of Counselling Ministry in Arua Diocese
‘’This is the day that the Lord has made’’ Indeed a large number of Christians matched in the morning of 16 th May 2019 in celebration of the Official Launch of the Counselling Service (CCS) Program in Arua Diocese; a program that began in 2017. The celebration was made more lively with the Ediofe Cathedral Brass Band accompanying them in the match from Arua town to Christus Centre. The day was graced by His Lordship Rt. Rev. Sabino Ocan Odoki, Bishop of Arua Diocese, and the Local Council V Chairman (LCV) Hon. Sam Wadri Nyakua.
The President of Uganda Counselling Association (UCA) Mr. Gaston's Byamugisha and his team from Kampala graced the event. Rev. Sr. Leonora Torach the Pastoral Counsellor Arua Diocese in her opening speech to the participants said that the new organizational strategic plan for 2019-2023 of the ministry will target people of God in Arua Diocese , Refugees, neighbouring Diocese and countries too. She was grateful to the Chairperson, His Lordship Bishop Sabino Odoki and his team for making this long awaited day come to pass. She extended her gratitude to the team from UCA for allowing to host the Conference in Arua which from 15th- 17th May 2019. It was celebrated under the theme," Support Professional Counselling in West Nile Region” then appealed to all the members to work hard so that the Organization is recognized in the whole of West Nile region.
The President of UCA Mr. Gastone Byamugisha also gave a brief background on UCA. It’s an organization that has brought together professional Counsellors with different skills. They are over 2000 people all over Uganda. He was excited and grateful that the Bishop pushed so hard for this program in West Nile region and assured him that he will spread the news to other Diocese to courage them too. He requested participants to listen to the young people even if they may not make sense most times. He the young are the majority and still have a larger capacity to adopt to a lot in the world today.
The LC5 Chairman Hon. Sam Wadri Nyakua also in a statement of his speech requested the Clergy and Religious not only preach about going to heaven but also preach about Christian's wellbeing adding that poverty is a root cause of evil and must be dealt with. He assured the Bishop that he will continue giving support to the Diocese and thanked the Bishop for this Counselling program.
At the same event, the Bishop of Arua Diocese thanked everyone who helped see this program through. He thanked the team from Kampala (UCA) and he believes this program will help very many people both born and unborn. He informed the participants that the same program is already on going in Gulu with support from Walsh University. He acknowledged the Government Uganda for helping too.
To conclude that event, he opened the training officially ushered the participants to a
three day workshop. End
