The Rt. Rev Sabino Ocan Odoki, Bishop of Arua Diocese has called the youth to be agents of positive change in their communities.

The Bishop said this in his homily during the Diocesan Young Catholic Students (YCS) Rally Day celebrations at Ediofe Cathedral. He also urged the youth to follow in the footsteps of the Diocesan chaplain Fr. Kizito Yandu in promoting Youth Apostolate.

The rally celebrations under the theme “Practicing Christ’s mercy through action”, attracted more than 1,000 YCS and saw 500 Students enrolled into the movement and 70 Students Confirmed. There was also a handover ceremony by the team Leaders in which Bakole Geoffrey Outgoing Diocesan team leader appealed to his successor to emulate servant leadership.

After Mass, celebrations were carried out at St. Daniel Comboni Youth Centre and Fr Kizito Yandu, Youth Chaplain, offered 10 tree seedlings to each of the 34 schools, Flaminio vocational School and YCS representatives from Mbarara Archdiocese. He also awarded the schools with certificates for best performance in the tree planting competition in the previous year (2016). Below are the first three best schools:

1.       Holy Trinity- Logiri Girls SS

2.       St. Joseph’s College Ombaci

3.       St. Marys’s Edife Girls

The Youth fund raised UGX. 940,000 to purchase a car for the Diocesan Youth Office.

The Youth say the annual event helps to remind them on their role in promoting Youth Apostolate in the Church.
